Metadata is &#8220;information\u00a0that is held as a description of stored data&#8221; (from\u00a0<a title=\"Metadata | Define Metadata\" href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/metadata?s=t\" target=\"_blank\">Dictionary.com<\/a>). In easier terms for an email, metadata is everything you know about the email\u00a0<em>except<\/em> the\u00a0<strong>subject\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>message<\/strong>. Common examples include the date received, whether an attachment is enclosed,\u00a0\u00a0additional receivers, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Open a web browser and search &#8220;Gmail Advanced Search&#8221;. click on the first result, &#8220;Advanced Search &#8211; Gmail Help &#8211; Google Help.&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/01-Advanced-Search.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1068\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/01-Advanced-Search.png\" alt=\"01-Advanced Search\" width=\"798\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/01-Advanced-Search.png 798w, https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/01-Advanced-Search-300x153.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 798px) 100vw, 798px\" \/>A<\/a>\u00a0table will have the advanced search operator, \u00a0the definition of what it does, and examples of performing the search.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/02-Table.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1069\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/02-Table.png\" alt=\"02-Table\" width=\"727\" height=\"97\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/02-Table.png 727w, https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/02-Table-300x40.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 727px) 100vw, 727px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Instead of trying to memorize all the operators, experiment with the advanced search operators to find ones that are applicable to your workflow. \u00a0One strategy is to place a sticky note on your monitor with 3-5 advanced search operators. Examples of my frequently used search operators are as follows:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/03-commonly-used.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1070\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/03-commonly-used.png\" alt=\"03-commonly-used\" width=\"733\" height=\"732\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/03-commonly-used.png 733w, https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/03-commonly-used-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/03-commonly-used-300x300.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 733px) 100vw, 733px\" \/><\/a>Complex Search with Multiple Search Operators<\/p>\n<p>Search operators can be strung together to form more complex searches. The following steps will depict how to access Gmail&#8217;s Filter Settings.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the Settings gear (A) at the top right corner of Gmail.
