Therefore, only emails within school or education systems are eligible.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Setting_up_a_Google_Classroom\">Setting up a Google Classroom<\/span><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>In Google Chrome, navigate to Google Classroom by typing the following address:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/classroom.google.com\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/classroom.google.com<\/a><\/li>\n<li>If this is the first time accessing Google Classroom, the screen will prompt for a &#8220;Teacher&#8221; or &#8220;Student&#8221; role. If you are a teacher, ensure that you select the &#8220;Teacher&#8221; role. They will be added as non-contributing teachers.<\/li>\n<li>In the dialogue box, enter the classes name. Students can log into classroom and then join the class by entering the code.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/05-classCode.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2284\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/05-classCode.jpg\" alt=\"05-classCode\" width=\"208\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Direct students to Google Classroom (<a href=\"http:\/\/classroom.google.com\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/classroom.google.com<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Direct students to click on the &#8220;+&#8221; on the menu.<\/li>\n<li>Have students enter the class code.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>An alternative method is to manually add students to a classroom. This method is more useful for students that transfer to the class after the class has already begun. Students can be invited in the &#8220;Students&#8221; tab (see below).<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Google_Classroom_Features\">Google Classroom Features<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Teachers can change the background image and colour theme of the Classroom. Furthermore, Google classroom contains three main sections: Stream, Students, and About.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/04-Classroom.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2301\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/04-Classroom-1024x517.jpg\" alt=\"04-Classroom\" width=\"1024\" height=\"517\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/04-Classroom-1024x517.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/04-Classroom-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/04-Classroom.jpg 1245w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"The_Stream\">The Stream<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The stream contains majority of the correspondences the teacher will have with students. New messages such as announcements, assignments, and discussion questions appear in reverse chronological order. Newer messages appear at the top of the stream. To add a message to the stream, click on the &#8220;+&#8221; icon on the bottom right corner of the stream.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/10-streamOptions.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2288\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/10-streamOptions.jpg\" alt=\"10-streamOptions\" width=\"217\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/10-streamOptions.jpg 217w, https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/10-streamOptions-176x300.jpg 176w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 217px) 100vw, 217px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><span id=\"Types_of_Messages\">Types of Messages<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Announcements<\/strong>\u00a0allow teachers to post general messages to all students within a class. Some examples of announcements included exam dates, special events within the school, and reminders for permission forms for an upcoming field trip. To create an assignment, simply select the option in the &#8220;+&#8221; menu. The dialogue box contains a line to type the message and icons to add resources. Once the announcement is complete, click on the &#8220;Post&#8221; button.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/11-createAnnounce.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2289\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/11-createAnnounce.jpg\" alt=\"11-createAnnounce\" width=\"795\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/11-createAnnounce.jpg 795w, https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/11-createAnnounce-300x86.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Assignments<\/strong> allow teachers to assign reading and writing assignments by adding Google Docs, YouTube videos and webpage links to the assignments. Assignments are similar to announcements with additional features such as optional due dates and creating a copy of a Google Doc for each student. Instead of attaching a Google Doc to the assignment, teachers simply ask the question directly on the stream. Students can then respond on the stream. Teachers can add a title and description in this section. In addition, the associated Google Drive and Google Calendar locations are accessed through this section. The teacher can also invite other teachers as a co-teacher and add materials such as a syllabus to this section.<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/09-addMaterials.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Notifications\">Notifications<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Whenever a teacher or student adds anything to the class stream, email notification are automatically sent out. However, with its relative newness, it still lacks several features that a fully developed LMS, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.technerdservices.com\/index.php\/2015\/05\/tutorial-how-to-install-moodle-on-ubuntu\/\">Moodle<\/a>, possesses. Some features Google Classroom will benefit from include its upcoming integration with Google Forms, Forms that save with partial completion, stylus support for Google Docs, parent integration, and more functionality for math learning.
